Garrett Nussmeier: “We all know that expectations have risen”

The 2024 college football season is just around the corner and once again there are great expectations for the LSU TigersThis comes in a season in which the team will have a new starting quarterback in Garrett Nussmeier.

Nussmeier is aware that the bar has been raised for the new season and he believes that ten wins are simply no longer enough.

“We’ve been talking about this since spring,” said Garrett Nussmeier. “We all know that expectations have risen.”

Current head coach Brian Kelly came in 2022 as the most successful coach in the history of Notre-DameSince then, it has posted two consecutive 10-win seasons and played for the SEC Championship. Now that the College Football Playoff field is getting bigger, LSU is expected to be in the running to make the cut.

“We all know that the bar has been raised. We all know that we are not satisfied with just 10 wins. I have said this before and Will (Campbell) I said it recently,” said Nussmeier.

“As I’ve said many times, this is not a results-oriented thought process. It’s an expectation of how we play and how we go about our daily routines. It’s how we want to conduct ourselves in the meeting room during fall camp, how we want to process what happened on the field and how we want to carry that over to the next day on the field. It’s how we approach each practice, each rep, each set.”

The quarterback will be a question mark for LSU at the start of this season. Last year, the Tigers were led by Jayden Danielsa Heisman winner who was selected second in the NFL Draft. Garrett Nussmeier now takes over as a former four-star recruit in the class of 2021. He has appeared in 18 games in his first three seasons with the program.

“So that was our attitude,” Nussmeier said. “We’re focused on the now, but expectations have definitely risen.”

Will Campbell believes Garrett Nussmeier will “light up the SEC”

Will Campbell, an offensive lineman at LSU, believes Garrett Nussmeier will take the SEC by storm this season and outshine the competition.

“(Nussmeier) definitely waited his turn,” Campbell said.

“I’m really happy for him. He’s going to go out there and take over the SEC. I mean, obviously the offense is different than last year. I mean, everyone here knows (Nussmeier) isn’t going to run 90 (yards) down the sideline every five plays — but he very well could. The style is different. But he’s going to be effective, we’re going to get the job done and score a lot of points.”
