Louisville-area students and nonprofit release music video in response to school busing decision | News

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — “Where’s my bus? Where’s my bus? I just need a way to get to school, so where’s my bus?” — Students in a Louisville-area school district are reacting to a measure to cut bus transportation at traditional and magnet schools in Jefferson County.

With the help of Hip Hop N 2 Learna Louisville-based nonprofit organization that seeks to mentor and support African-American youth, students filmed a music video called “Where My Bus At” to spread the word about the school board’s decision. The song, performed by The Real Young Prodigys, was written and produced entirely by students in the district.

A lawsuit has been filed against the district in federal court, alleging that its busing policy negatively impacts students of color.

Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio said in a press conference Thursday that the school district has 510 bus routes and 561 bus drivers, and that the district is still in the process of certifying some drivers. Pollio said this school year is the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic that the district has had more drivers than routes. According to the district, some buses could return to schools if more bus drivers are available.
