Jon Bernthal did not want to return as The Punisher without Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page

Jon Bernthal and Deborah Ann Woll will reunite in Daredevil: Rebornthe upcoming series, which is the successor to Daredevil and its spin-offs. The reunion made the return perfect for Bernthal, who didn’t think Frank Castle’s return would make much sense without Karen Page.




Currently in development, Daredevil: Reborn Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will return in their roles as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. After the announcement that the two actors would return, it was later revealed that both Bernthal and Woll would be among the returning cast members from the original series. In a new chat between the two actors for Bernthal’s Real Podcast, the Punisher actor explained that he did not feel motivated to return Daredevil: Reborn without Woll’s presence, given Frank’s bond with Karen.

Daredevil: Born Again initially wanted to ignore the previous series

When the TV show first went into development, it was intended to serve as more of a soft reboot, with Cox and D’Onofrio playing variants of their Daredevil and Kingpin characters. Woll was not planned to be part of the project, and at least one other character from the first show was recast. However, midway through development, Marvel Studios pulled the plug and decided to reboot the show from scratch under new direction. It has since been confirmed that Reborn will be a sequel to the original Daredeviland recognizes the events of this show and its spin-offs as MCU canon.

Footage from Daredevil: Reborn was shown to attendees at Disney’s D23 Expo. It featured Bernthal as Frank Castle, hinting at the character’s big return in the upcoming show. It remains to be seen if Bernthal’s Punisher will get a sequel to his own spinoff, but that seems like a possibility if Daredevil: Reborn is a big hit with fans. Bernthal had previously hinted at his reunion with Woll with a picture from the set showing the two actors sitting next to Cox, with Bernthal looking like he had just filmed a fight scene.


The cast of the series also includes Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, Jeremy Earl and Ayelet Zurer.

Daredevil: Reborn will be released on March 1, 2025 on Disney+.
