Hayfield, MN (KROC-AM News) – A Hayfield man was arraigned today in Dodge County Court on charges of criminal negligence in connection with a motorcycle accident last month.
The criminal complaint against 26-year-old Devin Michael Miles states that he also faces a charge of driving while disqualified in connection with the July 28 incident in Hayfield.
According to the indictment, a Dodge County deputy who arrived at the scene of the accident observed that Miles was speaking slurred and slowly, which led to a preliminary test that showed his blood alcohol content to be over .12.
Court documents say Miles told the deputy the accident happened when he lost control of the motorcycle because he felt his passenger lose her footing and begin to fall off the motorcycle. He reacted by turning around to grab a woman and eventually pulling on the handbrake, causing the motorcycle to tip onto its side.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman with significant injuries. She had “abrasions” on her shoulders, hips and legs. The accident report also described a large bump on her head that was bleeding slightly.
The criminal complaint states that Miles admitted that he and the victim had been to Northwoods earlier in the day and had a few alcoholic beverages. He also stated that after returning to Hayfield, he had another drink at a bar and that he and the victim later drank “two 12-ounce, 12-packs of Twisted Teas, equally.”
Miles’ next court date is scheduled for October.
