ASP releases dashcam video of TVI in South Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Arkansas (KAIT) – Arkansas State Police have released dashboard camera video from a chase in Jonesboro in July.

According to court documents, an Arkansas State Trooper said the Drug Task Force attempted to stop a Nissan Altima on July 19 because it was driving left of center.

However, the driver, later identified as Daylon Derrick Powell, fled from investigators.

The video shows Arkansas State Police pursuing Powell north on Interstate 555 between Red Wolf Boulevard and Southwest Drive.

Powell then took the Southwest Drive exit and turned right onto Alexander to reach Southwest Drive.

As he reached the intersection, an officer performed a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) on Powell’s vehicle and stopped him just before he entered traffic on Southwest Drive.

In the video, Powell can be seen telling investigators that he had no weapons and that his arms were broken.

“Myself and other officers attempted to conduct a risky stop from this point, but the driver would not get out of his car. His hands were out the window, so we grabbed his hands and pulled him out the driver’s window to the ground where he was taken into custody without further incident,” the affidavit states.

Investigators also found that Powell threw away a sandwich-sized bag of marijuana during the chase.

Before being admitted, Powell was examined by an ambulance.

A judge set his court date for August 23.
