Finn Wolfhard will write and direct his first feature film.
The “Stranger Things” actor – best known for his role as Mike Wheeler in the hit Netflix series – is reuniting with his “When You Finish Saving The World” co-star Billy Bryk for the upcoming horror comedy “Hell of a Summer.”
The duo will co-write and direct the film and will star alongside “The White Lotus” actor Fred Hechinger.
In a statement, Wolfhard said: “I am so excited to be co-directing my first feature film.
“I have the chance to work with an incredible cast and crew, and to be working with a company like 30West and Aggregate is a real dream.”
The film is produced by Hechinger along with Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan of Aggregate Films and Jay Van Hoy of Parts and Labor, with 30West handling all financing and executive producing.
Principal photographer filming is scheduled to begin later this month in Ontario, Canada. Plot details are being kept secret.
Wolfhard, 19, played the role of Trevor Spengler in “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” and previously admitted that director Jason Reitman gave him a lot of freedom in his portrayal.
When asked what might surprise viewers about the filming, he said: “A lot of it is practical, a lot of the effects are practical – the creatures are mostly puppets, with the exception of the flying ghosts.”
“I mean, Jason was incredibly lenient with the performances, he let me improvise a lot, which was great.
His script with Gil Kenan is so good that I almost never did it, but when I had an idea, I was able to go to Jason and talk to him about it, which was pretty amazing.”
Meanwhile, the iconic supernatural film series will continue with a sequel in December 2023, with Reitman at the helm, but there are no details on the cast yet.
