Everything you need to know before your trip

Illuminating the Hoan Bridge was a genius idea that made us wonder why we didn’t do this 25 years ago. It adds a tremendous visual, artistic element to our skyline while also serving as a beacon of community and support.

The nonprofit organization Light the Hoan made it possible in 2020, and after four years of enjoying the Hoan’s glow from the shore, it’s time to light the other side so those approaching Milwaukee by water can see our glow as they arrive.

So Hoancoming – formerly called “Hoanchella” – returns to land and water this Saturday, August 17. The event raises money for community programs, bridge maintenance and lighting the east side of the Hoan Bridge. The fun starts at 2 p.m.

“We are expanding activities this year and offering more opportunities for the community to celebrate the Freshwater Coast with us,” says Light the Hoan Executive Director Erika Smith.

Light The Hoan is a coalition of local business and community leaders who have joined together to light the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge. “Light The Hoan is a symbol of pride and unity for the city of Milwaukee,” Smith says.
