What is Connections?

Connections is a word puzzle game published daily by The New York Times, publisher of the endlessly popular Wordle puzzle. Created each day by crossword writer Wyna Liu, Connections presents you with a selection of 16 seemingly disparate words that you must group into four groups of four words, with each group of four words sharing a common theme.

For example, the words “hook,” “nana,” “Peter,” and “Wendy” are all Peter Pan characters. Or, to give another example, “action,” “ballpark,” “go,” and “stick” are all words that usually come right before the word “figure.”

Your task is to find out which themes connect the different words. But be careful, because often false connections are deliberately made to mislead you! To win the game, you must find all four connections without making four mistakes. If you make a fourth mistake, the game is over and the answer is automatically displayed.

Each of the four groups in the Connections puzzle of the day is also given a different color that indicates how easy or difficult the connection is to find. These colors are: yellow (easiest), green (easy), blue (moderately difficult) and purple (most difficult).
