Randy Rainbow criticizes Trump and praises Harris in new parody video

The political news of the last few weeks has felt like a decade—so Randy Rainbow sums it all up in a handy five-minute video.

For his latest parody, Rainbow dedicated himself to the classic musical by Rodgers & Hammerstein Oklahoma! with his own interpretation of the second act’s opening number, “The Farmer and the Cowherd.” To describe the current state of political affairs, Rainbow decided to change the title to reflect the candidates in the 2024 election and called it “The Lawyer and the Imposter.”

Rainbow begins the song in full cowboy gear, greeting the crowd with a reference to the constant stream of political news over the past few days. “I guess the last couple of weeks alone would have been enough to fill ten chapters in the history books, and frankly, I can’t keep up!” he says in a southern accent. “I had to rewrite that damn song six times… we need a Rodgers and Hammerstein B-side to keep things straight.”

Rainbow began the song in early July as Democrats expressed their unease over President Joe Biden’s declining poll numbers against former President Donald Trump. It sings the story of “the imposter” (Trump) and “the old man” (Biden) vying for the highest office in the land. Rainbow briefly touched on the assassination attempt on Trump and Biden’s disastrous debate performance, explaining their respective problems as candidates right at the start of his song: “One was corrupt and unfit/ The other couldn’t run for a f***ing office/ But they still fucking ran for president.”

But when Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, Rainbow portrayed likely Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris as “the lawyer” who prosecuted Trump’s “con artists” during the campaign. “One’s a felon and a crook/ The other’s about to punish himself/ And now it’s up to us who’s going to be president,” he sang.

What followed was Rainbow’s classic roasting, via a musical number in which he labeled Trump and his campaign as someone who wanted to “block our rights,” claimed that Trump had “his head up Putin’s ass,” and simply called him a “whiny little twat.”

But toward the end of the song, Rainbow slowed down to loudly support Harris and ask his viewers to stay tuned until the November election. “I know we’re gonna choose the light and everything’s gonna turn out OK,” he sang. “Or maybe not, girl, what the hell do I know?”
