The petition dated August 7, 2024, addressed to the Chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, seen by SaharaReporters, was signed by over 90 voters/electors of Yauri Local Government Area of the state.
The voters pointed out that their request was based on sections 69 and 110 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and lamented that Maidoki and Umar Uba had failed in their duties and responsibilities towards them.
According to the disgruntled voters, the needs and concerns of the voters have been neglected despite being elected to represent their interests and improve their living conditions. They stressed that the people are suffering from severe neglect and abandonment and are facing deplorable conditions such as poor roads, dilapidated schools, inadequate health facilities and displacement due to pervasive insecurity.
The petition reads: “We, the undersigned registered voters/electors, officially and remorsefully inform your esteemed office that we have lost faith and confidence in Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, representing Kebbi South Senatorial District and Honourable Garba Umar Uba, representing Yauri, Shanga and Ngaski Federal Constituencies.
“These representatives have failed to discharge their duties and responsibilities to our constituents. Although they were elected to represent our interests and improve our living conditions, they have neglected our needs and concerns.”
“Our communities are suffering from severe neglect and abandonment. We are faced with deplorable conditions such as poor roads, dilapidated schools, inadequate health facilities and displacement due to pervasive insecurity.
“Regrettably, there has been no meaningful intervention or effort on the part of Senator Maidoki and Honourable Mr. Uba to address these critical issues.
“In addition, economic hardship in our constituency has worsened. People are dying of hunger, small businesses are going bankrupt, the number of children out of school is rising rapidly and insecurity is the order of the day, creating a climate of fear and instability.
“As a continuation of the above, we deem it expedient and necessary to draft this petition reflecting our collective decision to recall Senator Garba Musa Maidoki and Honourable Garba Umar Uba from their positions.
“We want to replace them with representatives who truly care about our well-being, who are responsive to our needs and who advocate for our interests with integrity and dedication.”
