Don’t create anarchy and instability: BJP to Congress on Hindenburg case

New Delhi: The BJP on Monday rejected the Congress party’s demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) inquiry into Hindenburg’s allegations, saying the opposition party was conspiring to bring about “economic anarchy and instability” in India. The Congress party is demanding Buch’s resignation and the ordering of a JPC inquiry to ascertain the full extent of what it calls the “Modani mega scandal”.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, party chief Ravi Shankar Prasad reiterated the party line that the short-selling firm’s allegations and the opposition’s criticism of the Sebi chairman were part of a larger conspiracy. He claimed that billionaire investor George Soros was an investor in Hindenburg and was known to spread propaganda against the Narendra Modi-led government.

“While India is seen globally as a safe, stable and promising market, the Congress party wants to create an impression that the Indian investment landscape is unsafe,” he alleged, claiming that the opposition party is using the “vouchers” provided by foreign companies to harm the economy.

“Congress wants the stock market, which has provided good returns for millions of small investors, to collapse,” he said. However, he claimed that investors had recognized the “conspiracy” and rejected attempts to shake up the market.

“After the rejection by the people, the Congress, its allies and its closest ally in the toolkit gang have conspired to bring about economic anarchy and instability in India,” he told reporters.

The Congress’ rule between 2004 and 2014 was marked by several alleged scams, Prasad noted, and questioned why such critical reports were not published then. “In its pathological hatred of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and his stooge friends has developed a hatred of India,” he said.
