Chris Stapleton’s “Think I’m in Love with You” Video: Dancing in Heaven

Director Running Bear shows a sky full of family reunions and disco dance floors

Remember how Chris Stapleton’s powerful video for “Fire Away” blew viewers away, even though the country star barely appears in it? Then say hello to “Think I’m in Love With You,” the singer’s moody new music video that depicts an afterlife filled with family reunions and disco dancing — and features clever cameos from Stapleton and his wife and singing partner Morgane Stapleton that are hard to miss.

Directed by Running Bear and choreographed by JaQuel Knight, the video features TheWireAndre Royo plays a recently deceased patriarch whose spirit emerges from his body to walk through heaven’s gates in style. Royo, dressed in a bright red western suit, struts behind the hearse, prances through the cemetery, and eventually arrives on a heavenly dance floor where he is joined by his wife, who died before him. It’s both sad and joyful, but it makes an afterlife so comforting that we almost wish we could hasten our own deaths.

“Think I’m in Love With You” will appear on Stapleton’s latest album in 2023 Higher. It’s a funky, groovy studio recording that gained even more momentum at the ACM Awards in May when Dua Lipa performed it as a duet with Stapleton. In a subsequent interview, the pop star said she approached Stapleton to suggest the collaboration. “I’m such a fan of Chris and I just reached out and said, ‘Do you want to do something together?’ And that’s how it happened,” she told radio host Bobby Bones.

Stapleton is currently on his All-American Road Show Tour, which stops at the Austin City Limits Festival the first two weekends of October before heading to the UK for performances in England, Scotland and Ireland.
