Coastal officials confiscate weapons during routine traffic check

MOSS BEACH, CA — Coastal Patrol officers seized illegal weapons during a routine traffic stop in Moss Beach on Tuesday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said deputies saw a driver commit several violations before they stopped him around 7 p.m. As the investigation continued, deputies found the passenger was carrying a loaded gun with extra ammunition, as well as an unloaded “ghost gun,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Officers arrested the Pacifica man and booked him into Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of three firearms offenses, including two felonies. Investigators said the driver had a suspended license and was issued a citation at the scene.

“Over the past few months, officers with the Coastside Patrol Bureau have arrested several suspects for possession of dangerous weapons, including nine firearms, during routine traffic stops and various 911 calls,” the sheriff’s office said Wednesday. “These efforts not only increase community safety, but also help prevent further crimes.”
