Investigation into Nigerian woman behind ethnic poison threat

The House of Representatives has written a letter to the Canadian government asking it to investigate Amaka Patience Sunnberger, a Nigerian living in Canada, for making threats and hate speech against Nigerians of the Yoruba and Benin ethnic groups.

The letter, signed by Biodun Omoleye and Tochukwu Chinedu Okere, said Sunnberger’s comments posed a threat to Nigerians.

“On behalf of the Nigerian-Canadian Parliamentary Friendship Group and the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora Affairs, we are writing to express our deep concern over the actions of Ms. Amaka Patience Sunnberger, a Nigerian citizen living in Canada.

“Ms Sunnberger was recently recorded making inflammatory statements inciting violence against the Yoruba and Edo ethnic groups in Nigeria. Among other things, she called for the poisoning of food and water supplies in order to carry out mass genocide against them.

The letter further states that Sunnberger’s recorded statements posed a direct threat to the lives and safety of millions of Nigerians.

“Their incitement to violence and calls for genocide through poisoning are not only deeply disturbing, but also a clear violation of numerous international, Canadian and Ontario laws.

“Such rhetoric is dangerous and has the potential to incite real violence, both in Nigeria and within the Nigerian diaspora,” the MPs said.

It was also stated that Sunnberger had violated Canadian and Ontario laws, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and other laws.

The letter continues: “Given the seriousness of these violations, we respectfully request the following actions:

“Investigation: Ms. Sunberger’s actions should be promptly and thoroughly investigated by Canadian law enforcement and appropriate authorities.

“Prosecution: We demand that Ms. Sunberger be prosecuted under the relevant sections of the Criminal Code of Canada to hold her accountable for her incitement to genocide and her hate speech.

“Public Condemnation: We call on the Government of Canada to publicly condemn Ms. Sunberger’s actions, reaffirming Canada’s commitment to combating hate speech, violence and genocide.

“Cooperation with the Nigerian authorities: We also call on the Canadian authorities to cooperate with the Nigerian authorities to prevent any potential escalation of violence as a result of Ms. Sunberger’s incitement and to ensure that justice is done.

The Chairman of the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said on Wednesday revealed Identity of Sunnberger as the woman behind the threatening comments against Nigerians with Yoruba and Benin scholarships.

“This is the picture of the lady behind the voice. Amaka Patience Sunnberger.

“She deleted her TikTok account and a group of Nigerians in Canada are officially reporting her to the relevant authorities in Canada,” Dabiri-Erewa said.

In a viral video, Sunnberger, a woman living in Canada, was heard making anti-Yoruba comments on Tiktok.

She had vowed to harm Yoruba and Benin people by using toxic substances at her workplace and claimed her comments were a response to anti-Igbo “hatred”.

She explained: “Take this well, it is time to poison the Yoruba and the Benin. Poison all Una food for work. Poison the Una water, and let Una Dey Kpai die one by one.

“I want Ndi Igbo to get that heart of wickedness. Una too dey quiet

“Enough is enough! If you have the opportunity to save her, send her on her way.”
