Chef José Andrés opens Zaytinya in Culver City, bringing Mediterranean flavors to LA’s west side

The James Beard Award-winning restaurant celebrates Turkish, Greek and Lebanese cuisine.

World-renowned chef and global philanthropist José Andrés is bringing his popular restaurant Zaytinya to Culver City later this year. The new location, set to open in the Shay Hotel at 8801 Washington Blvd., will be the first Zaytinya on the west side of Los Angeles, taking over the space previously occupied by Michael Santoro’s Prima Donna and Italian restaurant Etta.

The chef is known for his commitment to providing food to people in disaster and war zones through his organization World Central Kitchen.

Zaytinya’s menu, created by the James Beard Award-winning chef, showcases the rich culinary traditions of Turkish, Greek and Lebanese cuisine. The restaurant promises to enhance these regional flavors with authentic ingredients and traditional techniques, creating dishes that put a fresh and unexpected spin on classic recipes.

The small-plate dining style, known as mezze, promotes a convivial atmosphere where guests can enjoy drinks, conversation and shared dishes with friends and family. This approach to dining is central to the Zaytinya experience, which Andrés has successfully brought to other locations in New York City, South Beach and Washington, DC.

With the opening of Zaytinya, Andrés now has three restaurants in Los Angeles, including San Laurel and Agua Viva, both located in Downtown LA. This new project marks the chef’s continued expansion in the city, offering Los Angeles residents Mediterranean-inspired cuisine in a lively, convivial setting.
