Nigel Farage threatens to stop going to the pub – POLITICO

“For my part, I would simply never go to the pub again if these restrictions were imposed.”

Earlier, the British daily newspaper The Sun reported on Thursday that Britain was considering banning smoking in beer gardens, outside nightclubs and sports stadiums, on restaurant terraces and on university sidewalks.

When Prime Minister Keir Starmer was asked about this statement on Thursday during a trip to Paris, he did not rule out such a step: “We will make decisions on this. Further details will be announced, but this is a preventable cause of death and we must take action to reduce the burden on the NHS and the taxpayer.”

The move would be part of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which the government announced in its legislative manifesto last month. The law would ban anyone born after 2008 from legally purchasing tobacco. The plan was first initiated by Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and supported by the Labour Party.

This is not the first time Farage has criticised the perceived power of the state. The Reform UK politician criticised the second and third Covid-19 lockdowns as “the biggest mistake a British government has ever made in peacetime”, sharply criticised the World Health Organisation’s pandemic preparedness treaty and stuffed himself with chocolate over Easter to protest against obesity measures.

“The Puritans are on the rise,” Farage wrote.
