NYC Mayor Adams Helps Destroy 4 Tons of Illegal Weed: WATCH

New York Mayor Eric Adams was manning the checkpoints when New York Police Department disposed of four tons of illegal weed.

The four tons, equivalent to approximately 576 bags of cannabis products, were loaded into the waste incineration plant on Long Island.

Adams operated what looked like a giant grapple to pick up huge piles of trash, including illegal marijuana, and bring them into the incinerator’s shaft.

The “Giant Claw Machine”.

The NYPD’s Cannabis Task Force says they burn the weed rather than simply disposing of it in a landfill to reduce the risk of it being taken home, stressing that some of the illegal products contain harmful substances.

The four tons of illegal grass correspond to approximately 576 bags of cannabis products.

“This really opens the door for people to go to the landfills and try to salvage what they can,” Adams said.

Since the spring, New York Police say they have inspected about 4,000 smoke shops but have only permanently closed more than 1,000. Officials say they are working to close that gap.

Although the grass is burned, the incinerator has a filtration system that cleans the fumes so that the surrounding community is not affected.
