Canon’s mirrorless cameras are incredible devices for independent filmmakers and creatives. Their small size makes them easy to carry around and shoot on the go. But what if you want to get a little more serious and attach accessories like some of the best on-camera monitors or the best microphone for filming?
You could start by looking at Canon’s EOS cinema series, such as the EOS C200, or transform your existing Canon EOS R5c, EOS R5 or EOS R6 camera into a full-fledged cinema kit with Camera Foundry’s latest CineBack.
The CineBack can be attached to the Tilta Full Cage for the EOS R5c and the SmallRig 2982B Camera Cage for the EOS R5 or R6, providing additional space for attaching accessories to the top and bottom plates, discreet cable routing, and powering the camera and accessories via a V-mount battery.
It’s important to note that currently only the first generation EOS R5 is supported and the rig cannot be used with the EOS R6 Mark II. While you should never say never, Camera Foundry says it’s committed to meeting customer demand. The Cineback is already available on a number of Sony mirrorless models, including the Sony A7 IV, A1 and FX30.
The V-mount battery plate on the back can support power pass-through to a D-Tap splitter with four separate outputs. This splitter can also be rotated to better fit your setup and is held in place with four screws. These D-Tap sockets can also be used to power accessories or the camera itself with optional USB-C PD cables. The CineBack also features a mains power kill switch to cut power to all accessories at once.
There is also a fold-out vanity panel to store cables to keep them organized and make the whole kit look more stylish. The CineBack does not cover any of the camera buttons, the top and rear buttons and the top screen are accessible. There is also space to flip and fold the camera’s LCD screen, with the CineBack having a handy recess to store the screen in when not in use and bumpers to protect the screen from knocks.
The CineBack weighs 1133 g (40 oz) without a camera or cage installed and measures 20 cm (7.87 in) long, 13.6 cm (5.35 in) high, and 10.8 cm (4.25 in) wide.
Unlike the usually overpriced cinema equipment, the CineBack for R5c, R5 or R6 is available at a very affordable price of $339 or £262, with certain accessories such as power cables and the camera cage costing a little more. The Camera Foundry CineBack is available to order now from the Camera Foundry online store.
