MTV Video Music Awards postponed due to US presidential debate. VMAs will take place on September 11th

Due to the upcoming US presidential debate, the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards have been postponed to a new date.

The VMAs will now air live from the UBS Arena on Long Island in New York on September 11 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, one day later than previously announced.

Last week, ABC News confirmed that the campaign teams of Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump had agreed to participate in a debate on September 10, the previous date of the 2024 VMAs.

On Tuesday, MTV announced the 2024 nominees. Taylor Swift once again leads the VMA nominations with 10 – eight of them for her music video “Fortnight” and nominations in the Artist of the Year and Best Pop categories. She is followed by her “Fortnight” collaborator Post Malone, who is nominated eight times with Swift and received his ninth nomination for his country hit “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallen.

Nominees in the Artist of the Year category include Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny, Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter and SZA.

Swift won nine VMAs last year, bringing her total to an impressive 23. That puts her just behind Beyoncé with 28 (two with Destiny’s Child) and just ahead of Madonna with 20 awards and Lady Gaga with 19.

Grande, Carpenter and Eminem are tied with six nominations; Megan Thee Stallion and SZA have five each. They are followed by LISA, Olivia Rodrigo and Teddy Swims of Blackpink with four nominations each.

Fan voting in 15 gender-neutral categories is currently active online and ends on August 30th.

Voting in the Best New Artist category will remain open throughout the show.

Artists at the 2024 VMAs include Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Rauw Alejandro and Camila Cabello.
