An ingenious brushstroke: artists and developers create real estate art together

One of Edinburgh’s most surprising artists has collaborated with renowned property developer AMA Homes to bring a new level of creativity to its show homes.

Jason Miller, co-director of the Charlie Miller hairdressing empire, is known worldwide for his sensational scissoring skills.

However, Jason, who has styled the hair of A-list actresses such as Kim Cattrall and Meg Ryan at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, has also built a reputation as one of the capital’s most established artists.

In a further artistic development, he recently collaborated with prestigious Edinburgh property developer AMA Homes, exhibiting his artwork in the show home of the newly opened Village View development in the exclusive Dean Village in Edinburgh.

Jason spoke about this exciting new partnership, saying it is an exciting opportunity to offer a completely new experience to potential buyers.

“So much shopping is done online these days that shoppers have the opportunity to be much more creative when visiting an actual location.

“People make an appointment to view the property and then come across my artwork as they look around. It’s pop-up art in a new property. It’s unexpected – and different – and a great conversation piece.”

Speaking about the new partnership, Jason said: “This collaboration between two established, family-run Edinburgh businesses creates a great story – and that’s exactly what people are increasingly looking for: an interesting, authentic story.”

Although he has spent much of his life working on and developing the Charlie Miller brand (the founder was his father, Charlie Miller), Jason turned his creative skills to the screen over 20 years ago – when he and his family moved into a new home in Edinburgh’s Trinity district.

“We couldn’t really afford the kind of artwork I wanted for the new house, so I thought why not try painting some myself. That then became a passion of mine,” he said.

Since then, Jason, a self-taught artist, has built up a loyal following and one of his first paintings was lucky enough to be exhibited at Edinburgh’s prestigious Open Eye Gallery. Over the following years he has developed organically, supported by Ian Smith Interior Design, Arusha Gallery and Gallery Ten in the West End.

The bold colors and textures of his abstract work also caught the attention of AMA Homes, who thought his art would add a whole new dimension to their Village View model home.

Village View is a prime example of AMA Homes’ commitment to creating sophisticated, high-quality living spaces. Located in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic Dean Village, the first phase of the project comprises 13 luxury apartments and a 320 square metre penthouse, seamlessly blending into the area’s rich history.

Large windows offer stunning views of the Water of Leith and the surrounding green countryside, while high-quality finishes and thoughtful floor plans ensure modern living.

Jason added, “Village View is an absolutely beautiful development and the show home, with its high ceilings and windows, interesting details and beautiful finish, is a beautiful canvas on which to showcase my work.

“The art gives it a new dimension and a nice, homey feeling.”

Jason often drew inspiration from interiors or images from magazines or Instagram and said he liked to create juxtapositions with his artwork.

“I love creating unexpected connections. A modern painting can look really good in an old house.”

He describes his artistic approach as follows: “I create moods for rooms.”

He added: “Working with AMA Homes, also a family-run business in Edinburgh, just like Charlie Miller, is a great partnership. It’s different. It’s two quality brands working together. And it’s an authentic event, not contrived.”

Behnam Afshar, Group Marketing & Sales Director at AMA Homes, said: “What better setting to hang these eye-catching works of art than our magnificent Village View show home?

“Jason’s work adds a whole new dimension to viewing a property and enriches the experience of every potential buyer.”

Behnam added, “The Charlie Miller brand is a great fit with AMA Homes – we are both proud of our reputation for delivering quality and look forward to working with Jason and the team on future projects.”

Village View is AMA Homes’ latest development of luxury apartments and townhomes in a prime inner-city location overlooking the beautiful Dean Village.

The first phase of the development consists of 13 modern apartments in the converted former Edwardian coach factory, Douglas House.

A selection of two and three bedroom apartments are currently available in the first phase, as well as the penthouse with panoramic views over Edinburgh. Prices start from £800,000 for a spacious two bedroom apartment.
