JD Vance claims Kamala Harris is running a ‘copycat campaign’ during a stop in a key swing state

Ohio State Senator JD Vance told voters in swing states that Vice President Kamala Harris is running a “copycat campaign” after her staff revealed that the Democratic presidential candidate was changing her stance on several key policies, including mandating electric vehicles.

Vance held a campaign rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, where he spoke about America’s transportation industry, energy policy and the economy.

The Republican criticized the electric vehicle mandate, claiming that Harris wants to “raise the price of diesel, raise the price of gasoline, and make sure every truck driver in this country is driving an electric vehicle.”

Harris led the Electric Vehicle Charging Action Plan in December 2021, an effort to ensure that 50% of auto sales are electric vehicles by 2030. In addition, the Biden-Harris administration concluded one of its latest Environmental regulations By 2024, half of all new cars and trucks sold are expected to be electric vehicles.

Ammar Moussa, the Harris campaign’s rapid response director, wrote in a “fact-checking email” on Tuesday that the vice president does not support “an electric vehicle mandate,” despite her past advocacy for more electric vehicle sales.

“If you look at her campaign over the last week and a half, you can see that she is pretending to agree with Donald J. Trump on all issues. She is running a copycat campaign,” Vance told those present.

Harris’ campaign staff have announced in recent weeks that the vice president has changed her stance on several other important issues, including fracking, an automatic gun buyback program, building a border wall and universal health insurance.

Harris campaign: Dem candidate does not support mandatory use of electric vehicles

“We have a vice president, Kamala Harris, who wants to be president and who believes that we should put our truckers out of work and that all of our truckers should learn computer code,” Vance said in Pennsylvania.

“If you force all these great truckers to buy electric trucks instead of the trucks they currently use, you’re going to make this inflation crisis a lot worse than it already is.”

The senator added that a Trump-Vance administration would “stop ridiculous, job-killing regulations like the electric car mandate.”

“Our economy doesn’t work if American truckers can’t do what they do so well,” he said.

In response to accusations of copying Trump’s policies, a Harris campaign spokesman highlighted several key policy areas where the two campaigns differ significantly.

“Unlike Donald Trump and JD Vance, Vice President Harris supports abortion rights rather than taking them away, she is cutting taxes for the middle class rather than raising them by nearly $4,000, and she is bringing Americans together rather than dividing them,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Most importantly, she stands against Donald Trump and JD Vance’s dangerous Agenda 2025.”
