UTA Express bus line to speed up travel in Salt Lake County

MURRAY — Utah Transit Authority’s popular bus rapid transit system is now coming to Salt Lake County.

It’s called the Midvalley Express, or MVX. It follows the very popular Utah Valley Express – which UTA calls the UVX – which has been in service for six years, and the Ogden Express, which is now celebrating its one-year anniversary.

“They are very popular and are wonderful express routes,” said Jay Fox, UTA CEO, at a launch event for the new express at Murray Central Station.

“We delivered OGX on time, we delivered UVX on time and we will deliver MVX on time,” Fox said.

Construction work on the project has already begun. The facility will not be completed until 2026.

Midvalley Express features express lanes and priority traffic lights and runs every 15 minutes like a TRAX train. The seven-mile route includes Murray, Taylorsville and West Valley City.

The 14 different stations include two major stops, one at Salt Lake Community College and the other at the Maverik Center, which will eventually be one of the host sites for the 2034 Olympic Games.

“Not only is this great for the community, but it will be groundbreaking with the 2034 Olympic Games in mind,” Fox said.

Thanks to a federal subsidy, UTA will not charge any fees for the first five years.
