Suncoast Credit Union celebrates milestone with one millionth checking account holder

KISSIMMEE, FL (August 28, 2024) — Suncoast Credit Union, the largest credit union in Florida, recently celebrated a major milestone by welcoming its one millionth checking account member. The celebration took place Friday, August 23, at the West Osceola Service Center, where Suncoast leaders honored Yofre Flores Gonzalez, a new business owner, with a special ceremony.

During the event, Gonzalez, who recently opened both a business and personal account with the West Osceola Service Center, was surprised with a $1,500 check from Suncoast. This contribution will support Yofre in starting his food truck business. In addition to the check, Yofre received a gift basket full of Suncoast gift items and a commemorative plaque.

Yofre’s journey with Suncoast began when he opened a business checking account after forming his LLC for a food truck business. As Yofre learned more about the benefits of being a member of a credit union and the cooperative model, he decided to open a personal checking account, becoming Suncoast’s one millionth checking account holder.

“Suncoast Credit Union is truly changing my life,” said Gonzalez. “Since opening my accounts here, I’m getting my personal finances in order and finally realizing my dream of starting my own business. I wasn’t ready for this honor of being the one millionth checking account holder, but it makes me feel like my dream is coming true, and that’s what I’ve always wanted.”

This milestone underscores Suncoast Credit Union’s impressive growth. Over the past decade, Suncoast has doubled its membership and now serves more than 1.2 million members. Suncoast is the eighth largest credit union in the United States based on membership.

“Reaching one million checking accounts reflects our commitment to serving Florida’s communities with excellence,” said Kevin Johnson, president and CEO of Suncoast Credit Union. “We are honored to celebrate with Yofre, whose entrepreneurial spirit and dedication embody the very values we support at Suncoast. Empowering our members to pursue and achieve their dreams is at the heart of what we do, and Yofre’s journey is a powerful testament to how a strong relationship with your financial institution can turn dreams into reality.”

The event underscored Suncoast’s ongoing commitment to empowering its members and supporting local entrepreneurs
