SIA warns of fake websites, emails and social media accounts claiming to be from the airline

SINGAPORE – Singapore Airlines (SIA) has warned its customers about scams using its name.

These scams appeared on phishing websites, in emails, text messages, social media accounts and phone calls, pretending to come from the national carrier.

In a Facebook post on August 12, the airline said that false hotline numbers had been published online, including on Google Maps, wiki pages and community forums.

Customers requiring assistance should contact only the hotline numbers on the official SIA website.

According to SIA, people also posed as airline employees on messaging apps and approached the public with fake job offers. Anyone interested in working for the airline should visit its official LinkedIn page or career portal, the airline added.

In addition, fake social media accounts posing as SIA have posted ads with discount offers in order to obtain their customers’ personal information.

Additionally, users received emails or attachments containing phishing links from parties claiming to be from SIA.

“To appear more authentic, scammers may change their caller ID to mimic our official phone numbers or change their email addresses to mimic our official SIA email accounts,” the airline said.

The public can verify information and report fraudsters by contacting the SIA through its website.

The Straits Times has asked the company for further details.
