BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – The Warren County Public Library has launched a new series dedicated to children’s book authors.
The “Let’s Read Kid” author series gives children the opportunity to get to know the authors of their favorite stories.
Max Brallier was the first author in the series. He is best known for his book The Last Kids on Earth, which became a Netflix series. Brallier took the time to talk about the importance of reading and writing and how libraries helped him develop his love of creating.
“Once I discovered that I loved writing and could tell stories, I just kept reading and reading,” he said. “From then on, I was very lucky and it became a career. Without the reading and writing that I did and the reading that other people do, I don’t know where I would be now.”
Brallier explained that he never had a particular teacher that changed his life, but he did have the local library. He went there after school and found several of his favorite book series.
According to Gretchen Mitchell, school day specialist at WCPL, the author series began after speaking with local schools and thinking about ways to provide students with opportunities for educational field trips throughout the school year.
“I hope that children can see themselves in the stories he tells about how he started writing and that they realize that this is an opportunity for them and that they are no different from a famous author who makes a living writing stories,” Mitchell said.
Through the end of the 2024-2025 school year, the series will feature a different author each month, giving students plenty of opportunities to get to know their favorite authors.
