Proposals to enshrine school choice in Colorado’s Constitution and create a new veterinary qualification on the November ballot | Elections

According to the Secretary of State’s office, two more ballot initiatives have officially qualified for the November ballot.

The first initiative, Proposition 138, is a constitutional amendment that would add a provision to the state’s education law stating that all children have the right to choose their school.

The second initiative, Proposition 145, establishes requirements for veterinary assistants, a new position in veterinary medicine that proponents say is critical to addressing the state’s shortage of veterinary personnel.

Veterinary assistants may perform certain tasks that veterinary technicians are not authorized to perform, such as prescribing medications and performing certain surgical procedures.

Opponents of the initiative argue that veterinary professionals lack the training and experience to perform these additional tasks and could therefore endanger the lives of animals.

Two other initiatives are still awaiting signature verification before the September 5 deadline. One proposes the creation of a “Peace Officer Training and Support Fund” to help recruit, train and support police officers and their families. The other aims to implement a ranked choice voting system and eliminate single-party primaries.
