Motocross of Nations gives second-grader Chance Hymas a chance for a 250cc ride

Chance Hymas, 19, will join Chase Sexton and Aaron Plessinger on Team USA for the Motocross of Nations (MXoN), which will take place from 4 to 9 October 2024 at Matterley Basin in the United Kingdom.

“It’s an honor to represent Team USA this year,” Hymas said in a press release. “For as long as I can remember, it’s been my dream to compete in the Motocross of Nations. The support of Team Honda HRC and the AMA (American Motorcycle Association) means so much to me.”

“I can’t thank Mike Pelletier enough for believing in me and giving me this chance to represent my country against the best in the world.”

2024 Pro Motocross Champion Chase Sexton will race in the MXGP class. Aaron Plessinger will be the Open rider.

The announcement comes a week after Hymas finished second behind Tom Vialle at the Ironman National in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Vialle will be the 250cc rider for Team France.

With his second place at the Ironman, Hymas finished his first full season in professional motocross competition with a fourth place overall.

“This team has a shared mission to return the United States to the top step of the world podium and will fight hard to achieve that goal,” said Mike Pelletier, AMA Racing Director. “We have brought together three outstanding racers who are eager to represent their country. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish as a team this year.”

The first race took place in 1947 and the 71st edition of the Motocross of Nations will take place this autumn. The defending champion is Team France. The 2023 race took place in Ernée, France. Team USA finished eighth.

Sexton, the 2024 motocross champion, will serve as captain in 2024. Plessinger held that role last year.

“I couldn’t ask for a more America-loving teammate than Aaron, who I know will give it his all, as he has done all season,” Sexton said. “I know Chance well and he’s shown a lot of speed all season, so I’m looking forward to building the bond with the guys and fighting for the top spot in the UK in a few weeks.”

Sexton was part of the 2022 team the last time America won the event.

“There is no greater honor than having the opportunity to show your true patriotism on a world stage and represent your country abroad,” Sexton said. “I’ve had the opportunity to be part of a winning Team USA before, and there is no better feeling than standing up on the podium waving the red, white and blue flags.”

“I’m lucky to have the chance to do this this year, along with two great teammates.”

Roger DeCoster will be the team manager. He has led the United States to 21 MXoN team victories.

“I would like to thank Honda for answering the call and showing unwavering support for Chance’s initial selection as part of the team, and KTM for always supporting Des Nations’ efforts,” said DeCoster. “It is and should always be the greatest honour to represent your country on the international stage and I have the utmost respect for every rider and every team that takes on this challenge.”
