Someone looking for work sent a bamboo plant to Rob Thomson’s office in the hope of bringing the bats to life:
One ambitious individual sent Rob Thomson a bamboo plant with a note that read, “I hope this helps the players out of their slump. Positive vibes are one of the many things I bring to this club as a future baseball ops employee.”

Thomson didn’t say when he got it, but the gift seems to coincide with a four-game winning streak in which they scored 30 runs and 54 hits, along with 16 doubles, and have an OPS of .969. The bamboo could bring good luck. We’ve seen it before.
Quick backstory if you don’t remember Bamboo Brad’s origins. Brad Miller bought a “lucky bamboo plant” in Chinatown and brought it into the Phillies’ locker room one night after the Phils were in the midst of a seven-game losing streak:
Brad Miller told me he bought the lucky bamboo in Philly today. He believed it would end his losing streak tonight.
“This will bring us some victories. I can feel it.”
I said, “If you win tonight…?”
He said: “If we do this”

That night, the bats came alive and the Phils had the most hits in a game at that point in the season. They immediately went on a four-game winning streak, with two walk-off wins over the Mets. The fans brought bamboo to the games. It was a great moment in an otherwise forgettable season. So if someone wants to give Rob Thomson bamboo to turn the tide, I’m all for it.
If the Phils win the game against Taijuan Walker and sweep the Astros, I’ll get bamboo.
