With Google Gemini you can create AI-generated people again

Google is letting users once again create images of people through its Gemini AI chatbot after pulling the feature earlier this year amid reports of historically inaccurate images, such as Nazis of different races. In an announcement, Google says it will roll out an early access version of the feature to Gemini Advanced, Business and Enterprise users in English “in the coming days.”

This upgrade is powered by Imagen 3, the latest version of Google’s AI text-to-image generator. Google quietly rolled out Imagen 3 earlier this month through its AI test kitchen, and now it’s coming to Gemini in all languages. The updated tool can generate everything from photorealistic landscapes to textured oil paintings with a description of “just a few words.”

Imagen 3 can create a wide range of images.

This is not to be confused with Google’s new Remagine feature, which lets you incorporate AI elements into photos taken with the company’s new Pixel 9 line of phones.

Additionally, Gemini won’t allow users to create photorealistic images of public figures, content featuring minors, or bloody, violent, and sexual scenes. “Of course, not every image Gemini creates will be perfect, but we’ll continue to listen to feedback from users with early access to Gemini Advanced as we continue to improve,” Citron adds. Google plans to expand the ability to create AI-generated people to more users and languages soon.
