Jennie Garth talks about her connection with co-star Shannen Doherty: “People don’t quite understand it”

Jennie Garth will always have a “connection” with Shannen Doherty.
The 52-year-old actress starred in Beverly Hills, 90210 in the 1990s alongside Shannen – who died earlier this month at the age of 53 after a long battle with cancer – and admitted that she and her former costars simply tried to “support” each other in the face of the tragic news.
She told People: “I don’t think people fully understand when you go through life-changing events like this together for so long in your formative years. There is a bond that can never be broken by an argument, a death or an opinion.”
“No matter what happens, this bond exists and it will last for the rest of our lives and beyond.”
The former What I Like About You star first shared a group chat with her co-stars, pleading for them to suffer “no more losses.” Jennie admitted that she and her bereaved colleagues are “supporting” each other, especially after already losing her co-star Luke Perry – who passed away from a stroke in 2019 at the age of 52.
She added: “I think we just really honor that connection and we’ve supported it.”
“We reach out to each other here and there, offer each other support and just tell each other that we love each other. I think that’s one of the hardest parts for me, that it’s now – there are two people from our original lineup (who died).”
After news of her friend’s death broke, Jennie took to social media to remember the “Charmed” star as one of the “strongest women” she had ever met.
Alongside a throwback photo of herself and Shannen, she wrote on Instagram: “I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my longtime friend Shannen, the woman I often described as one of the strongest people I have ever known. Our connection was real and honest. We were pitted against each other so many times, but none of it reflected the truth of our real relationship, which was based on mutual respect and admiration.”
