What you need to know about buying tickets for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles

The 2024 Summer Olympics concluded yesterday in Paris and the baton has been passed to Los Angeles, which will host the 2028 Games. Although it’s still four years away, many may be wondering how, when and where to snag tickets. Here’s everything we know so far about booking your trip to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles:

Event tickets

Tickets for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles are not yet on sale. However, anyone who wants to be there should keep an eye on upcoming announcements.

From our knowledge of previous events, tickets are usually available to the general public about one to one and a half years before the event.

For example, ticket sales for the Paris Olympic Games began in December 2022 with pre-registration, and ticket package sales started in February 2023.

The organizing committee for the 2028 Los Angeles Games announced ticket sales locations in February, but no plans have been released yet on when sales might begin.

The 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, for example, are still in the pre-sale registration phase, and sales to the general public will not start until February 2025.

Now all we have to do is wait – probably until 2026 or 2027 – and sign up for updates. You can subscribe to the official newsletter for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles here.

Flights

Most airlines allow bookings between 6 and 11 months in advance. Getting a seat at a major international hub like Los Angeles shouldn’t be a problem. The only question is how much you’ll have to pay for it.

When booking a flight to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, timing is crucial. Although you should be prepared to pay a premium for flights during the games, it may not be impossible to get a reasonable deal.

For example, when Thrillist planned a trip to the Paris Olympics in February, the company found that flights were actually cheaper than they had been the previous summer.

Airfares can also drop if you stay on site after the games. After a major event of this nature, demand is usually low at certain destinations, leading to lower prices. This is currently the case in Paris.

For example, if you’re planning to visit Los Angeles in general, the weeks following the games may be a good time to look for cheap flights and hotels.

Hotels

Hotels generally open their booking calendars to guests about a year in advance, but some hotels accept reservations almost two years in advance (e.g. Radisson Hotels).

While this is common practice, there may be some variation during an event such as the Olympics. Hotels will no doubt offer special packages for the Games, and prices reflect the high demand that comes with this international event.

If you have a particular hotel in mind, it’s not a bad idea to call them and ask how they will handle their Olympic reservations. They probably don’t have a specific idea yet, but you can ask how you can be notified when the booking window opens – perhaps via email or a similar marketing tactic.

While no two situations are exactly the same, getting a hotel room may not be as difficult as you think. Rooms get really expensive during the Olympics, and Paris, for example, had trouble filling its hotels in the run-up to the games.

Were

If you’re bursting with excitement, merchandise for the 2028 Olympic Games is already on sale. A T-shirt currently costs $35.
