More than 300,000 people in Michigan without power after…

Nearly 400,000 people were without power Wednesday morning after a series of thunderstorms in Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota, according to PowerOutage.us. National Weather Service offices in Grand Rapids and Detroit reported severe storms with high winds and hail through Wednesday morning. DTE Energy, which serves customers in southeast Michigan, expects power to be restored to more than 90 percent of customers affected by the storms by the end of Thursday.

What other weather conditions are there in the United States this week? A heat wave is hitting states in the Midwest and parts of the Mid-Atlantic region this week, with temperatures reaching near triple digits. In Chicago, public schools canceled outdoor activities on Monday and Tuesday due to excessive heat. Electric grid operator PJM Interconnection issued a peak power generation alert on Tuesday to prepare the company for expected high electricity usage by its customers. The company serves Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington DC
