Eyechat is a new app that is similar to Chatroulette but focuses only on your eyes. Will it end up with the same problems as Chatroulette?

This is definitely a different approach to video chatting. However, it seems like it can’t stop people from looking weird on screen. Will it really work?

Eyechat could be the new Chatroulette

Remember Chatroulette? It was incredibly popular for a brief moment in about 2009. You could connect with people from all over the world using a Skype-like video chat program. It could have been very cool and a great way to meet new people from different places you’ve never been. But it ended up being just a bunch of people touching their penises on the screen in front of you. It was awful and it seemed to happen every time you tried to connect. I’m pretty sure that was ultimately the end of the app.

Eyechat wants to make a name for itself in the world of video chats without all the unwanted flashing. According to Boeing, BoeingNeal Agarwal is the creative programming genius behind Neal.fun, which offers free browser games like Draw Logos From Memory, Space Elevator, Days Since Incident and more. Now he brings us Eyechat.

You turn on your webcam and it cuts out everything but your eyeballs. Then you get matched with a stranger and you’re literally eye to eye with a random person. It sounds like there’s not even sound involved! It’s nothing more than you staring at them and them staring at you. This sounds like the creeps are finding a way to sneak in here. Maybe it’s sitting by your eyes, then you stand on a chair and put your privates where the eyes were? I’m not sure how they’re going to do this, but the fact that there’s no sound makes me a little skeptical.

Would you use it? I don’t know if I trust it! Find out more here.

Who is this for? Why wouldn’t it have sound? You’re supposed to just stare at someone while they look at you? I don’t know! I feel like this gets sexual really quickly. Especially when people compare it to Chatroulette, some perverts will think their favorite technology is back and giving them something to do. I want nothing to do with it! Would you use it? Or would you be afraid of what you might find?

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. 13 years after graduating, he was named Clarkston High School’s 2009 class clown. That’s totally normal. He owes that to his time as an intern at Comedy Central and as a social media correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy all over the country, both stand-up and sit-down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on the radio and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also completely uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So basically anything and everything.
