Smorgasburg Miami is closing – but only for now.
The New York-based outdoor weekend food market, which opened in Wynwood in March 2022, is closing for about a month, with August 31 being its last day.
Owner Gaston Becherano, who calls the venue at 2600 NW Second Ave. a “Disneyland for food,” said after two and a half years, it was time for an update.
“We have been operating non-stop for the past few years and wanted to use this little break in September to make Smorgasburg the most exciting festival ever,” he said.
Off-season improvements include additional seating, new landscaping and, perhaps most importantly, more shade. During Miami’s endless summer, the outdoor market can get busy.
The venue is also releasing five new spots for vendors to show up at the market each weekend. In addition to the five new spots to fill, there are 25 returning vendors as well as 10 new vendors already confirmed.
The venue is scheduled to reopen the weekend of September 28-29, but before that it will host a “Hui Hou! End of Summer Luau” on Saturday, August 31. The event runs from 2-10pm, with live music after 7pm. Vendors will be offering specials throughout the night.
Smorgasburg Miami is a sister location to the original Smorgasburg in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The smaller Smorgasburg on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach closed earlier this summer.
