Confrontation between car thieves in north Seattle ends with gunfire

Multiple shots are fired after a Lake City man chases a suspected car thief out of his driveway.

The encounter was captured by the resident’s Ring camera around 1 a.m. on August 19 west of Lake City Way NE.

Gina Neal told KIRO 7 the suspect parked in front of her house in a red car and tried to break into the cars in her driveway.

“He just wanted to make sure they were locked, so he checked all the doors,” Neal explained.

She says her son-in-law was sitting in his own car when the suspect drove up.

“When he got to the two cars in the back, my son-in-law got out of his car and the guy started running,” she said.

Her Ring video shows her son-in-law chasing the stranger out of the driveway. He then jumps onto the suspect’s car and tries to prevent him from escaping.

“(My son-in-law) saw him looking for a gun, ran around the house and went in the back door,” Neal explained.

The suspect fired four shots at the house. Fortunately, none of them hit her son-in-law.

“I was horrified. I was just glad he wasn’t shot and that he was able to get away before the guy pulled his gun,” Neal said.

Instead, the four bullets pierced three of the family’s cars.

“My daughter actually heard a big commotion and was scared,” Neal said. “She ran into our room and thought, ‘Mommy and Mommy, something’s going on,'” said Myeisha Berry, Neal’s daughter.

Berry said she was grateful the shots missed her husband. She described him as a protector of her family who did everything possible to protect them.

“When is a good time to step in and try to protect your family, just because you know you’re so used to doing your best to protect your area while staying safe,” Berry said.

The family called Seattle police, who are still looking for the suspect seen in the red vehicle.
