The Google account switcher on mobile devices could soon look clearer

Google appears to be working on a redesigned account switcher. As the folks at Android Authority discovered, there are several new lines of code in several apps that reference the UI update, and we can now see what it might look like when it’s officially released.

The redesigned UI for switching accounts in Google apps may look very similar to the web version. Currently, the app version shows your primary account and right after that you have a Manage your Google Account button, other connected accounts, Add another account button, as well as the option to manage the accounts on your device.

The web version looks cleaner. It shows your profile picture, a greeting, and the “Manage your Google Account” button at the top. You also have a collapsible “See more accounts” menu that contains the other options. And the app could adopt this approach from the web version.

The discovered code also shows that the new UI will also include a greeting and a collapsible menu for your other accounts. However, unlike the web version, the account switcher on mobile may also get a new account switching button.

This new look is currently in development and we don’t have an official release date for it yet.

In my opinion, simplification is always a good idea, as long as you don’t hide a useful feature behind a ton of steps. I think Google is working on making things more manageable without sacrificing functionality, which is great.
