US Open star collapses in terrifying scenes during match before being wheeled away in wheelchair

On the opening day of the US Open, there were frightening scenes on Court 8 when Yoshihito Nishioka had to abandon his match against Miomir Kecmanovic after collapsing on the floor.

Kecmanovic forced a deciding set by winning the fourth set before things took a turn for the worse for his opponent.

Nishioka looked a little uncomfortable at the beginning of the fifth set as Kecmanovic held his serve to zero.

The 28-year-old’s service game ended in deuce, while Nishioka writhed in pain and held his leg.

He was then given medical treatment on the pitch and Kecmanovic came over to show his support and sit next to him.

The treatment continued for some time, causing even more concern among observers.

The Japanese tennis star eventually had to abandon the match after he was reportedly taken off the court in a wheelchair.
