Electric vehicle users from Ingoldmells please contact bus stop blockers

Users of electric vehicles have protested against drivers who use a bus stop to park.

The stop on Sea Lane in Ingoldmells is close to shops, but illegally parked cars prevent buses from stopping.

Activists are calling for better enforcement of the rules so that people with reduced mobility can get on and off at their desired stop.

Lincolnshire County Council announced it would take action against cars blocking bus stops or using them to pick up or drop off passengers.

Activists said the problem of illegal parking at some of the resort’s bus stops was worse during the holidays.

They called for clearer signage to encourage drivers to use the nearby parking spaces and to encourage holidaymakers to be more considerate.

Len Hemmingway, who lives in Sea Lane and uses an electric mobility scooter, said: “People don’t want to leave their cars in the car park.

“They park at the bus stop and then the buses that come down can’t let the passengers off.”

Protester Wendy Dolan said: “If there are cars and the bus can’t stop, it will go to the next stop.

“We’re already struggling to get a bus here without making it even more difficult.”

Irene Richardson added: “And if there are wheelchairs, they have trouble getting on and off them.”

Her fellow protester Sandra Ford said: “We simply cannot get on the buses here because there are so many cars parked there.”

“Last week the (bus) driver got out and ordered a woman to move her car, whereupon she verbally abused him.”

The council told the BBC that bus stops “have no stopping rules provided they are signposted and marked” and urged residents to contact their local district council if they feel the stop is not adequately signposted.
