US Open 2024 results: Emma Raducanu eliminated after first-round loss to Sofia Kenin

US Open 2024 results: Emma Raducanu eliminated after first-round loss to Sofia Kenin

After Raducanu decided to skip the Olympic Games in Paris this summer, she also missed the WTA 1,000 events in Toronto and Cincinnati ahead of the US Open.

Raducanu admitted afterwards that she had lacked some sharpness in her game against Kenin.

“I had a bit of a slow start, but I was able to fight back really well in sets two and three and there wasn’t much in it,” said Raducanu.

“I think I worked my way into the match quite well, but at this level you can’t really afford to start the set slowly and start a set behind.

“I know that when I have a lot of games, like any other player, I feel really good and have the feeling that everything runs automatically.

“I can learn from this and organize my time a little differently.”

After an injury-plagued 2023, Raducanu returned to the tour in January and reached the second round of the Australian Open.

She skipped the French Open on clay court to focus on her fitness for the British grass court season – a decision that appeared to pay off as she reached the fourth round at Wimbledon with an impressive run.

“I think I’ve made progress considering where I was at the beginning of the year – I didn’t play for seven months,” added the world number 71.

“After three surgeries, I was able to train for a month in December and I think it was a really great achievement to get back into the top 100.”
