And the good news: We are extending the IA The writing competition runs until the end of October, so you have even more time to submit your entries and have a chance to win!

We are really impressed by the quality of this year’s work – it will be difficult to select the finalists.

The two lucky overall winners of this year will be published in the 2025 edition of IA in print and get a $1,000 cash prize each!

We are still accepting submissions for our Most convincing article And The most exciting creative work Categories.

The finalists for each category are selected each month and receive a 12-month IA Subscription. Full terms and conditions* are listed below, but one important change from last year is the new word limit – maximum 2,000 words.

MOST CONVINCING ARTICLE CATEGORY

We invite you to submit contributions for the Most convincing article. Articles from the general public that we have not requested may be submitted.

Category “Most exciting creative work”

We also invite authors of fiction and poetry to participate in the The most exciting creative work Category. Send us an engaging short story or poem that addresses current issues or social issues.

Non-fiction Article entries are judged by the founder of the Australian Press Council and former CEO and Editor-in-Chief of The age, Ranald Macdonald AO.

Creative Work Entries The jury includes an Australian theatre and film producer, former CEO of the Sydney Writers’ Festival and Director of Adelaide Writers’ Week. Jo Dyer.

*CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

  • Registration deadline is Thursday, October 31, 2024.
  • Contributions in both categories may not exceed 2,000 Words.
  • All entries must be submitted in Word or PDF Format.
  • All submissions must include a short biography and profile photo of the author, as well as an email address and phone number.
  • The entries must be originals.
  • Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
  • Articles that have already been published on IA or elsewhere will not be accepted.
  • IA Columnists are not eligible to participate.
  • Article commissioned by IA are not eligible to participate.
  • IA Employees are not eligible to participate.
  • Previous contributors to IA Admission is free.
  • Entries may be edited at our discretion.
  • Contributions can be published on IA without being nominated for an award.
  • The winners will be notified by email.
