“Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a fun ride,” Raiola said.

A 6’3″, 230-pound quarterback, Raiola has a rare flair to his game that can truly wow a crowd. He does things few others would even attempt, throwing an underhand throw here or an off-hand flip there.

That’s not why he got the job at Nebraska, though. Knowing when to channel that kind of energy will be key.

“I think he’s really improved his footwork in the pocket, which is one of the big things,” Rhule said recently of Dylan Raoila. “I know sometimes people want us to name a starter because that’s the most convenient thing to do, but ultimately we want to be a program where you earn things. And even though you might be ahead of others, you’re not the starter until you show me you can do that, and that challenges people to do that.”

“I think one of Dylan’s biggest strengths was – and this is very important with young quarterbacks these days – Dylan can drop back and throw the ball behind his back and probably hit you. He can also throw the ball from underneath. But we don’t want to do that unless we absolutely have to.”

Then there are all the things that go into creating a game plan each week. This week it could be UTEPbut later it will Ohio State And USC.

Nothing should be missing.

“I think you have to take every opponent as they are, respect your opponent and you have to learn,” Dylan Raiola said. “It’s actually funny, one of our receivers watched the video and forgot what color UTEP was. But we look at different things to prepare for UTEP, so that’s the challenge, not knowing where people are going to line up.”

It’s Raiola’s job to put all the pieces together and get them ready for match day.

The young Nebraska playmaker exuded the confidence that some of the other true greats have and made a little promise to the fans.

“We have everything we need, all our weapons are loaded and ready to fire. Whatever it takes on Saturday will happen,” said Dylan Raiola.
