Walmart plans to build a large warehouse in the Republic

REPUBLIC, Missouri (KY3) – Another major development is coming to Republic. Walmart plans to build a pharmaceutical distribution warehouse near the city’s Amazon fulfillment center.

During Republic City Council’s meeting Tuesday night, it was announced that the warehouse will be built at State Highway MM and Sawyer Road in the planned Hankins Farm development district.

Derek Lee represented Walmart at Tuesday’s meeting with Springfield-based Lee Engineering and Associates. He told city council members that the warehouse, which will be only the second of its kind in the country, will ship goods to a large part of the United States. He said construction will proceed very quickly.

“They bought the property last week. They’re going to start construction this week. They picked up their site development permit yesterday. And we’ve got everything ready and we’re just waiting for the property to actually be bought. So if you go there sometime next week, you’ll probably see the entire site leveled,” Lee said.

The measure was brought to the City Council as part of an agreement between Walmart and the City of Republic. The city will install water hydrants and approximately 1,200 feet of water mains on the property, with the developer reimbursing the city for the cost of materials and equipment used in construction. The Council will vote on the measure in two weeks.

Karen Haynes, Republic’s director of community development, told council members that the warehouse “will be the first of several large-scale economic development projects and job centers in this area.”
