GREENVILLE, Michigan – North America’s longest-running refrigeration company is expanding.

Right Place’s economic development team said it, along with the Montcalm Economic Alliance, helped Northland Corporation obtain more than $5 million in state and local incentives to expand its Greenville facility at 1260 E. Van Deinse St. by 98,000 square feet.

The company plans to create 200 new jobs as part of the expansion and announces capital investments of over $21 million ($17 million in real estate and $4.4 million in equipment).

Here are more details from a press release:

Northland has pioneered many advances in undercounter refrigeration technology, developing the first foam-encased refrigerator and the first refrigerator of its kind with a sleek stainless steel interior and glass doors.

The company is experiencing dramatic growth and increasing demand for its products. Due to this growth, Northland Corporation is increasing its production capacity for its high-end equipment. The company plans to expand its 15,000 sq. ft. facility by an additional 8,400 sq. ft. and add several state-of-the-art pieces of equipment to support the continued development of new products.

The Montcalm Economic Alliance, supported by The Right Place, worked closely with the City of Greenville and the MEDC to ensure the company continued its growth in the region rather than out-of-state locations. The overall incentives are as follows:

Michigan Business Development Program $1,280,000

City of Greenville property tax abatement of $2,838,327

State education tax credit $646,808

Sales and use tax exemptions USD 264,000

“We are excited about expanding our manufacturing facility in Michigan,” said Andy Doberstein, President of Northland Corporation. “This state is home to a remarkable workforce and we are excited to leverage their talents to produce even more cutting-edge refrigeration products. Our commitment to innovation and quality will continue to drive our growth and success in this great community.”

“The City of Greenville is very pleased that our partners at Northland Corporation have chosen to expand their facilities in our city,” said George Bosanic, manager of the city of Greenville“They have a long history of success here in Greenville and we look forward to a long and successful collaboration in the future.”
