Light Lift: Writing postcards

Light Lift: Writing postcards

This weekend I attended my first postcard writing party. I wanted to do something besides my financial support, and postcard writing seemed ideal for this Californian. Basically, you write a script in support of a Democratic candidate (in my case, Jacky Rosen, but a rising tide lifts all ships). These cards are sent to registered Democrats who did not vote in the last election. It was fun, there was good food, and lots of interesting people to meet. So please consider hosting a postcard writing party.

Here are some details: Our host relied on Activate America for mailing lists and scripts. She ordered her postcards from Stone Maven and if you use the coupon code “Postcards” are 15% off. Pro tip: Choose cards that have the address and design on one side and the other side is completely blank. This makes writing messages much easier than trying to squeeze the message onto half a card! Each guest was tasked with addressing, writing and decorating 10 cards – we sent out over 200 cards on Sunday afternoon.

You may be wondering (like me) whether postcards are effective in getting votes. Then you will be interested in this analysis: Blue Wave Analytics: Postcards. Essentially, according to this analysis, 24% of recipients rather choose 22% are slightly more willing to vote. And the cards have a cascading effect, as 17% of recipients ensure that others are registered as voters slightly more likely at 23%. Also, somewhat surprisingly for me, 12% or the recipients would pass the card on to others.

You don’t have to host a card writing party to participate in card writing, but I think it’s more fun. Please consider it because this is a simple task.
