After reading Doug Selwyn’s column Understanding trauma in the schools (August 24), I still blame Democrats for keeping kids out of school for so long. Since Selwyn is chairman of the Franklin County education task force Continuing the Political Revolution (quite a big shot), he and the Democrats he spoke to for his article aren’t pointing fingers at their fellow Democrats.

Thankfully, the article did not blame Donald Trump. You may recall that he was a voice of reason during this terrible time. Trump wanted America to open up, not close itself off. The Democrats wanted him to shut up.

Selwyn says, “COVID has potentially traumatized an entire generation of children.” Do you think so? He “spoke to teachers in Massachusetts and across the country and they reported seeing more outbursts, more physical altercations, inappropriate language, and more students seemingly unable to just stay in their seats. They seemed to have forgotten how to be in school.”

The author and the teachers he spoke to made no mention of Dr. Anthony Fauci (a Democrat) or Randi Weingarten (a Democrat and plagiarist). Weingarten is president of the American Federation of Teachers. The AFT “lobbied the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and even suggested language for the federal agency’s guidelines on reopening schools. The AFT and its allies have long been among the Democratic Party’s most reliable and deep-pocketed donor groups,” the New York Post reported.

Weingarten and Fauci should spend the rest of their lives in prison for what they did to America’s children. Selwyn also writes: “Preschool teachers reported that many of their children appeared to have missed important developmental steps during the early years of isolation, living with overwhelmed parents and struggling to survive.”

Republicans knew that children should have been in school all along. The people at risk were the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions. And we should never forget that it was OK for Democrats to leave their homes to protest in the streets, set fires and attack police after the death of George Floyd in 2020. But sending children to school was unthinkable.

As for masks, Democrats have never apologized for making us wear those stupid things. If they’re so effective, why were we sent into lockdown? And since masks don’t completely protect us from catching the virus and passing it on to others, why did we have to put one on when we went to a store? You may have noticed in your travels that some mothers still mask their children. If adults overreact and cover their faces 24/7, that’s fine, but 4½ years later, face coverings on children are insane.

In case you haven’t heard, Baystate Health has issued another pointless mask mandate. But I expected that since there’s a presidential election in the near future.

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, the real threat to this country is the Democratic Party, not Trump.
