GoFundMe accounts set up for two victims of the Elyria disaster

GoFundMe accounts have been set up for a Cleveland man who was killed in a two-vehicle crash and for a Lorain man who was injured in the crash.

The accident occurred on August 22 at State Route 57 and Griswold Road in Elyria.

The family of 36-year-old Tanner Smith, who died at the scene of his injuries, is trying to raise $6,000 for funeral expenses, according to the GoFundMe account. According to police reports, Smith was a passenger in a Nissan Altima that struck a Toyota Corolla.

“Tanner did not have life insurance, so the cost of her (the family’s) son’s funeral will be a burden as they are both on welfare and have no money for a funeral,” the report said. “Any help would be greatly appreciated.”

As of the afternoon of August 27, 37 people had donated $5,980, according to the report.

A second fundraising campaign for another victim of the crash has been launched.

Robert Vormelker, 48, of Lorain, was on his way home from the grocery store when his Corolla was struck by an Altima driven by a 40-year-old Amherst man as Vormelker was going through the intersection, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

“Rob has a long road ahead of him and is fighting for his life with everything he has,” the GoFundMe account says.

His wife and two sons also have a long way to go as a result of the accident, the report says.

As of the afternoon of August 27, 82 donors have raised $4,290 for the fundraiser. The goal of the campaign is to raise $25,000.

Meghan Incorvaia, 36, of Wakeman, another passenger in the Altima, also died in the accident.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Elyria Post, the incident remains under investigation.
