OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Be sure to bring your smartphone on your next visit to the EAA Aviation Museum.

Many exhibits now have QR codes that can be scanned. The codes lead to a self-guided tour called “Inside the Hangar.” The website includes additional features such as background on the exhibit, off-exhibit archival photos, and other information not found on signs in the museum.

“Museum visitors across the country today want more interaction with the pieces and exhibits they see, and the Synthesia software allows EAA to add far more depth to an exhibit than we could put on a sign,” said Amelia Anderson, curator of collections at the EAA Aviation Museum, in a press release. “This system also provides a way to provide additional and behind-the-scenes information about an exhibit as we discover it. As this proves to be increasingly popular, we will be adding it to more exhibits in the coming year.”

Visitors will find the first QR code at the entrance to the museum. It explains the possibility of a self-guided tour and its advantages.

The first exhibits to feature QR codes include the Mechanix Illustrated Baby Ace exhibit, Little Audrey, Little Bonzo, and the Huey helicopter exhibit in the Eagle Hangar.
