Lulu, the dog so matted Chilliwack SPCA couldn’t tell back from front

Within days, Lulu was seeking love and attention and “performing the sweetest little prance,” says BC SPCA

When a neglected little dog first showed up at the Chilliwack BC SPCA facility, she was so afraid of being touched that she had to be sedated before being shaved.

“When little Lulu, who had been abandoned in a trailer, arrived at the BC SPCA, she was severely matted and in great pain,” said center director Jasen Nyrose in the BC SPCA’s August 27 press release.

The fur was so soaked with urine and tangled and in such a terrible condition that Lulu was immediately taken to the vet.

“When I first saw Lulu, I couldn’t tell her front from her back,” Nyrose said. “Given the amount of fur she had, we thought she was a medium-sized dog.”

SPCA officials were shocked when they picked her up and discovered that she was a 4.5 kg Lhasa Apso.

“The extreme pain that little Lulu must have felt is simply devastating,” he said.

The matting hurt so much that she was terrified of being touched.

“But her physical appearance is not the only change we have noticed in Lulu since she came into our care.

“After just a few days, Lulu has come alive and is actively seeking love and attention. She even does a cute little dance step when she walks.”

The pup is now in the care of a BC SPCA volunteer foster carer while she recovers from surgeries, but potential adopters can look for her on the adoption page of the BC SPCA website in the next week or two.
