Two people arrested with drugs and ammunition during traffic stop in Anderson

Anderson police arrested two people after finding fentanyl, cocaine and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop.

On Monday, August 26, around noon, an Anderson Police Officer conducted a traffic stop near Balls Ferry Road and McMurry Drive for a traffic violation.

According to an APD news release, the officer contacted the driver, David Charles Simpson, 29, of Washington, and the passenger, Jaymee Elizabeth Hayward, 24, of Oregon. The officer said they clearly saw drug paraphernalia, which provided probable cause to search both individuals and their vehicle.

During the search, numerous items were found, including

  • About two pounds of fentanyl
  • A usable amount of cocaine
  • Drug paraphernalia, packaging
  • Working digital scales
  • Unfired ammunition
  • Personal items that do not belong to either subject

Officials said Simpson was later arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail for possession of fentanyl for sale, transportation of fentanyl for sale and possession of ammunition by an unauthorized person.

Hayward was later arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of possession of fentanyl for sale and transportation of fentanyl for sale.

According to APD, additional charges will be filed against both individuals with the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.
