Lincoln man arrested on multiple charges after traffic stop on I-80

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – A Lincoln man is in custody after a routine traffic stop for speeding resulted in multiple charges.

On Friday around 7:30 p.m., a Lancaster County police officer stopped a Ford F-150 speeding on westbound I-80 near the Waverly exit. The driver was identified as 37-year-old Ryan Day.

According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, a review of Day’s information revealed that his driver’s license had been suspended and he had two misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest in Lancaster County.

The officer took Day out of the vehicle and asked him if he had any weapons. Day admitted to hiding a handgun between the driver’s seat and the console.

While searching the truck, the officer discovered a Heritage Rough Rider .22 caliber revolver with five live rounds and one spent cartridge, as well as a methamphetamine pipe in the driver’s side door pocket.

Day was booked into the Lancaster County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with several counts, including possession of a controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon without a warrant, carrying a firearm during the commission of a crime, driving while license suspended, unauthorized display of license plates and failure to have valid registration.
